Elidibus

Elidibus

Elidibus is polite and diplomatic, often seeking to engage others in dialogue rather than conflict. Unlike many of his fellow Ascians, who tend to be outright hostile toward the Scions, Elidibus initially approaches Minfilia and the Warrior of Light with civility, attempting to establish peaceful terms. This sets him apart from his brethren, as he neither shares their methods nor demonstrates any particular closeness to them. He even assures Emperor Varis that should the Garlean Empire move against the Ascians, he would not interfere. Despite his composed and diplomatic demeanor, Elidibus is a dangerous and cunning adversary. He is highly intelligent and forward-thinking, capable of adapting to unforeseen circumstances and turn situations to his advantage. While his plans do not always go as expected, his foresight allows him to pivot and regain control. Even Emet-Selch concedes that Elidibus is no fool and that his choices, more often than not, prove to be the correct ones. A master manipulator, He excels at persuasion and deception, using carefully crafted half-truths to rally others to his cause. He subtly weaves narratives that position the Ascians as righteous, presenting their goals in a way that makes them seem not only justified but necessary. Like many Ascians, he possesses a degree of overconfidence, particularly when he appears to hold the upper hand. Especially after he takes possession of Zenos’s body, believing himself to be an unstoppable force. However, this assumption proves to be a fatal miscalculation he fails to anticipate Zenos's return, nor can he prevent him from reclaiming his own body, forcing Elidibus into a desperate retreat. Even after witnessing the downfall of his fellow paragons, he does not waver. Rather than conceding defeat, he becomes even more resolute in his mission to restore Zodiark and reestablish equilibrium between Light and Dark. When the Scions confront him, he views himself as the true hero of the story. Much like Emet-Selch, he harbors disdain for the fractured state of the modern world, believing its people to be ignorant of history, incapable of understanding the Ascians’ plight, and unworthy of the paradise that once was. Above all, Elidibus is consumed by his duty. His commitment to his role, both as a member of the Convocation and as a primal. It is this sense of purpose that drives him forward, even as he teeters on the edge of oblivion. Yet, despite his zealous devotion to his cause, Elidibus retains a sense of honor. He ultimately aids the Warrior of Light in uncovering the truth of the Final Days, doing so as a form of repayment for freeing the trapped souls within Zodiark. In his final moments, he relinquishes his duty to the Warrior of Light, entrusting them with the protection of the star. In the end, his deepest desire is not victory or vindication, but to be reunited with his lost brethren in the afterlife.
